Last night I was out with a friend and she asked me about my internet handle—12minds. The intent behind it is pretty straightforward: There’s always more than one path to take. There’s always more than one way to look at a problem and even truths can be viewed from varying perspectives. Among my favorite quotes is one from Whitman’s Song of Myself—Do I contradict myself?/Very well then I contradict myself,/(I am large, I contain multitudes.)

I embrace the notion of change, growth, and perspective. I like that I am not the same person I was five years ago and the 12minds of tomorrow will be different than the one of today. I like that we’re in flux, that we’ve got a constant and consistent opportunity to become different people and better than who we once were. I like that every day is an opportunity to timshel. It gives me hope. It gives me reason to get up and run. I wish to contain multitudes.

Plus, 13minds sounds silly.
