Duke Ellington plays Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

For me, this song encapsulates the summer: Warm, exciting, and smooth. It’s like watching a beautiful woman stretch as she’s sunning herself.

It reminds me of green and gold, heat with a hint of a breeze, the smell of food on the grill, and the excitement of the wide-open expanse of the possibilities of the summer.

The extra bonus to this particular version is that it’s played by DC’s native son, Duke Ellington.

Enjoy the summer, friends. Enjoy the weekend, enjoy July. Stretch. Smile.
